China, as the world's largest producer, consumer, and exporter of refrigerants, faces pressing challenges in managing refrigerant recovery and reuse. The automotive repair industry, a key player in refrigerant use and recycling, requires enhanced recycling practices to curb the release of harmful gases that significantly impact the global climate.
This report outlines a pilot initiative in Guangzhou, China, aimed at developing standardized processes for refrigerant recovery and recycling to improve resource efficiency and mitigate environmental damage. Part of the "Climate and Ozone Protection Alliance (COPA)" project, implemented by GIZ and funded under Germany's International Climate Initiative (IKI), the study introduces a robust methodology for calculating emission baselines and scenarios using real data. The complete report is available on the COPA website.
