BEAT is a free web-based tool that calculates the embodied and operational carbon emissions of a building across its lifecycle, from material production through operation to end of life. HEAT developed the assessment methodology and the underlying Environmental Product Declaration database, adapting European lifecycle assessment practice to Asian building typologies, climate zones and material markets.
HEAT is the technical lead for BEAT within ALCBT. HEAT developed the assessment methodology, adapting EN 15978 to Asian building typologies and climate zones, built and maintains the Environmental Product Declaration database that supplies the material data, and published the BEAT Handbook Part 1 as the accompanying methodological guide in April 2025.
Since its launch in June 2025, BEAT has been used to assess carbon emissions in more than 300 buildings across the region. It supports the ALCBT training programme, under which professionals in Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam are trained to run lifecycle assessments and apply the results in design and procurement.

BEAT was developed under the Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition project, a 2023 to 2028 programme implemented by GGGI with ACE, EESL and HEAT GmbH, and funded by BMUKN through the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
