Dietram Oppelt, Managing Director of HEAT GmbH, has been elected as Chair of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) during its Advisory Board Meeting in Copenhagen this April. This appointment recognizes Mr. Oppelt’s significant expertise and long-standing commitment to advancing climate technology solutions globally.

HEAT’s Role in Climate Technology Transfer

Since 2016, HEAT has served as the implementing office of Germany’s National Designated Entity (NDE) under commission from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. As NDE Germany, HEAT functions as the national focal point for international climate technology development and transfer under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The NDEΒ΄s responsibilities include raising awareness about relevant German initiatives supporting technology development and transfer, sharing funding opportunities, connecting key stakeholders, and facilitating networking for both German and international partners. The organization also represents the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action in international climate negotiations on technology-related matters and supports the work of UN institutions focused on climate technologies.

Β Supporting Global Climate Technology Institutions

The Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) are two critical UN institutions dedicated to enhancing climate technology development and transfer worldwide. The TEC provides strategic policy recommendations on key technology sectors, such as industry decarbonization, AI for climate action, Agrifood systems etc. Its analysis and recommendations include helpful information on best practises and lessons learned that can be used by governments to accelerate climate action. The CTCN serves as the operational arm, delivering technical assistance to developing countries on climate technology projects.

Leadership in Climate Action

Mr. Oppelt’s election as TEC Chair positions him to guide the committee’s work in developing meaningful policy recommendations on key sector technologies. His dedication to climate action has been evident throughout his career and life and continues to inspire the entire HEAT team.

We congratulate Mr. Oppelt on this significant appointment and look forward to his leadership in advancing global climate technology solutions.
