Project background
The NDE Germany is a key component of the Technology Mechanism under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), supporting the CTCN at the national level. The NDE evaluates the technological requirements of developing nations in relation to climate change, facilitating connections with prospective supply markets. It actively promotes partnerships that lead to low-emission technology solutions globally.
Project activities
The NDE Germany builds connections that align the supply and demand of climate technology collaborations, for example with matchmaking workshops and capacity building activities. Its mandate is to address.
- inquiries from the CTCN and other NDEs regarding German climate technologies, federal programs, and research collaborations.
- Proposals for technological partnerships with German enterprises, academic bodies, and public sector institutions.
- Interests from German businesses in climate-related technologies aimed at emission mitigation, climate change analysis, or adaptation strategies.
The NDE Germany also plays a pivotal role in informing climate negotiations on the technology mechanism under the UNFCCC alongside the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN).
HEAT as Implementing Office
With the NDE Germany being anchored in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), HEAT GmbH has been entrusted with the operation of NDE Germany since 2016. Currently in the second phase, HEAT GmbH continues supporting critical climate negotiations, functioning as EU liaison, and backing the Industrial Deep Decarbonization Initiative (IDDI) for zero-carbon cement.
