The project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of Rwanda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) – Facilitating Access to Climate Finance for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Rwanda” aims to enable the Rwandan private sector to successfully access climate finance products. It does so by strengthening the demand side, helping MSMEs understand climate finance and options for greening their business models, and by engaging the supply side (financial institutions and intermediaries) to better understand MSME needs and design tailored financial products.
The project is implemented through targeted training programmes for selected financial intermediaries and young professionals at the Rwandan Green Fund, specialised workshops for MSMEs, and matchmaking events that connect financial institutions with businesses. A comprehensive publication complements these activities by documenting best practices and lessons learned.
By facilitating MSME access to climate finance, these activities contribute to Output 3 on climate finance and private sector engagement under the wider NDC capacity development project (NDC‑CD), which forms part of the Rwanda–German Climate and Development Partnership.
