Data scientist and modeller for climate protection projects

You already have experience with relational databases and their integration into cloud solutions and are creative in tapping new data sources? Are you interested in and committed to climate protection and international cooperation?

Then you might be just the person we are looking for!

Your tasks are:

  • Development of sectoral greenhouse gas inventories, especially for emissions from buildings and transport.
  • Development and refinement of projection models and their application to new sectors.
  • Creating dashboards, visualisations and other tools to help policymakers and clients make better strategic decisions
  • Setting up and optimising cloud-based applications
  • Analysing data and tapping into new data sources
  • Development of user-friendly tools for reporting on mitigation projects under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and project-based monitoring
  • Project conception and acquisition
  • Implementation of trainings for the use of the developed applications

Your qualifications:

  • A degree in the STEM field or comparable knowledge acquired by other means
  • Several years of practical experience in the field of data science
  • Very good knowledge of a programming language from the data science environment, e.g. Python, as well as very good SQL knowledge
  • Experience in working with MS Access databases
  • Good knowledge of regression modelling and machine learning algorithms, ideally also with application in the environment of current cloud hyperscaler (GoogleCloud, AWS, Microsoft Azure or IBM)
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Interest in international cooperation and climate protection
  • Experience in the consulting industry, scientific institutions, think tanks and other civil society actors is an advantage;
  • Willingness to travel within and outside Germany
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Business fluent in German and English; another foreign language (especially Spanish or French) is an advantage

Junior- or Senior- Consultant (m/f/d) for Climate Protection and Climate-Friendly Technologies

Do you have a strong commitment to international cooperation, environmental and climate protection with an interest in technical issues? You would like to work in a small and flexible team of experts on the development and implementation of international projects?

Then you might be just the person we are looking for!

Your tasks are:

  • Supporting (junior) or managing (senior) projects for our national and international clients
  • Contributing to (junior) or independently conducting (senior) technical studies, emissions inventories and scenarios
  • Data collection and database management, market or demand analyses and calculations
  • Managing (senior) or supporting (junior) project acquisition

Your qualifications:

  • University degree in engineering or natural sciences (Master's degree)
  • Some (junior) or at least 7 years (senior) of work experience in the fields of climate protection, energy efficiency, emission mitigation
  • Expertise in processing technical data and the ability to independently create Excel-based data models and calculate emission scenarios
  • Knowledge of international climate protection policy, MRV methodologies and IPCC guidelines for emissions inventories is an advantage
  • Knowledge in the fields of refrigeration and air conditioning technology, thermodynamics, and building technologies or is an advantage
  • Fluent in spoken and written German and English; another foreign language (especially French) is an asset
  • Very good writing skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office

Consultant for low-carbon transport

To achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and ideally keep the global temperature increase below 1.5ºC, the transport sector is one of the most important sectors to decarbonize. HEAT supports countries and cities in their clean transport efforts. This includes modal shift (moving to more non-motorized transport (NMT) and more public transport) and the adoption of clean vehicle technologies.

Our consulting activities include conducting technology and market assessments, power grid impact studies, policy and regulatory reviews, environmental footprint calculations and social impact assessments, and developing vehicle and passenger growth and forecast scenarios based on surveys and secondary data collection, and analyzing appropriate funding options. All of our projects are complemented by capacity building activities to ensure the continuation of our technical assistance.

Are you strongly committed to tackling climate change, reducing emissions and developing low-carbon plans for the transport sector? Are you exceptionally committed, adaptable and willing to contribute to the growth and development of our team? Then you might be just the person we are looking for!

Your tasks are

  • Implementation of international cooperation assignments (e.g. with GIZ, CTCN or others)
  • Knowledge Management for the transition to low carbon transport
  • Backstopping and quality assurance of assignment outputs as well as project and expert coordination / management
  • Technical report writing
  • GHG modelling (IPPC Tier 2 methodology)
  • Business development / project acquisition and proposal writing

Your qualifications:

  • University degree (Master) in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Economics or comparable studies;
  • Knowledgeable in at least two of the following topics: transport planning; transport modelling; public transport; data collection; clean drive train technologies; e-mobility: vehicle, battery and charging technologies, battery management, battery recycling, charging infrastructure; Total Cost of Ownership calculations; climate finance; GHG emission modelling; climate change; E fuels; green freight & logistics; autonomous driving; climate resilient infrastructures; urban infrastructure or others related to the previous topics
  • 5 years work experience in a relevant field and context
  • Languages: Native-speaker level English; fluent German, French or Spanish is an asset

Interns in IT, Communication, or Climate Technology Consulting

If you are an enrolled student and looking for an interesting place to spend your required internship at, we're looking forward to your application for a 6-month internship.

Requirements for all internships are:

  • You have started or recently completed higher education or FH degree program in a field relevant to your internship
  • Secure handling of the MS Office package
  • Independent, flexible and reliable way of working

Technology-focus internship

  • Supporting the development and implementation of technical studies, market or demand analyses,
  • Conducting of data collections, creation of inventories, calculation of greenhouse gas emissions

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of thermodynamics, refrigeration technologies or energy efficiency
  • Advanced knowledge in MS Excel, Access and database management (SQL)
  • Interested in interntional cooperation and climate policy
  • Fluent in English and German, Spanish or French are an asset

Communication-focus internship

  • Writing and editing of texts and presentations
  • Editing of company and project websites including social media
  • Supporting project acquisition

Requirements:

  • Quick grasp of technical topics
  • Interest in international cooperation and climate change policy
  • fluent German and English in spoken and written, ideally fluent Spanish or French

Internship with IT focus:

  • Support for in-house IT processes and processes;
  • Installation of hardware and software
  • Optimization of Microsoft SharePoint, teams and other programs for internal use

Requirements

  • Extended Excel, Access, and Database Knowledge (SQL)
  • Knowledge of MS Office365, especially MS Sharepoint and MS Teams
  • Experience as network administrator
  • Knowledge in powershell / scripting desirable
